There was a nasty hail storm the night before, but the weather ended up being fantastic for the hooding. Liz in full regalia got some pictures in front of the historical old well one of the symbolic figures of UNC. This picture was my favorite because Liz is for the moment both relaxed and having fun.
The hooding was held in memorial hall, and had a record attendance. Almost the whole main floor was taken up by graduates and their mentors. There was even a closed circuit video showing the ceremony to the overflow crowd at the building next door. It was neat to see the variety of different gowns and hear the names of all the degree granting programs.
I had switched the camera to movie mode in hopes of getting a video of Liz getting hooded, but I didn't really know how that worked, and unfortunately it didn't turn out. Then to compound the error I forgot to put the camera back in photo mode and instead of snapping a picture I took a movie of Liz with her boss Dorothy Erie. Here is a still from from the movie which unluckily has a little worse quality then a normal picture.
After the hooding ceremony we took Dorthy's advice and tried her local favorite BBQ, Allen and Son's. Liz and I had never been out there before, but wish we had been. The pork BBQ is cooked with hickory to give it a nice smoky vanilla flavor, and we got to enjoy a slice of blueberry pie to round off our meal.
