This weekend we went berry picking with the Davis Family. This time Liz and I were prepared, maybe overly so. We all went to Biringer Farm in Everett, which was about a half hour north of here up I-5. The farm is one of two locations in the Seattle area, the one in Everett on Spencer Island and the one in Arlington.
The Everett location has strawberries, raspberries, and tayberries (a blackberry-raspberry mix). Unfortunately, the Everett location is going to be turned back into wetland area. I forget the details, but one of the workers there said that the lease had been bought a few years back by the city and they reserved the right to turn the land back to wetlands, and it seems after this season they are going to exercise that right.
Here is a picture of me picking raspberries.
And here are Liz, and Katy and Evan (staying out of the sun under the blanket).
We ended up each getting a flat of strawberries and raspberries. In total I think it was something like 20 pounds of berries in all.
We got right to it with the berries, and made jam and strawberry pie the same night. Liz and I took most of the remaining berries and froze them. So we'll be stocked up on berries for while.
