Portland and the Shaffers

Not this weekend, but last, Liz and I drove down to Seattle to visit Paul, Suzanne and Jackson Shaffer. The took us around to see the sights. Here we are at one of the local hills that has a view out to three mountain peaks: Mt. Hood.

Here is Mt. Saint Helens and just to the left in the back you can almost make out Rainer.

While we at the viewpoint we thought we'd get a picture of the bunch of us.

One of the other places we went was to the Portland Rose garden. Liz took a lot of pictures, but I thought I'd just pick one to show. It was really neat to see all the variety of roses, from miniatures all the way to exotic climbing varieties. One of my favorites was this rose which was the nicest lavender color.

We also went berry picking!! The farm was really fantastic, there was a view of Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood, and on the drive there we were able to see Mt. Saint Helens. The farm was really set-up well for u-pick. The fields were very well marked and the sections ready for picking had flags. They even had carts for people to use to haul several flats of berries. On top of all this the berries were simply fantastic. The Blueberries were perfectly ripe and nice and plump. The raspberries were monstrous, and were at their peak. Unfortunately, Liz and I forgot to grab some of the berries before we drove back to Seattle...
